This was such a good find. Lovely old Grade 1 listed Hotel, looks and feels like a little castle. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice public areas and big upstairs 'drawing' room/lounge for relaxing in. Food was nice and well presented though portions (especially cooked breakfast) a bit small, restaurant staff could not do enough to ensure we were satisfied, very accommodating and friendly. Room a little dated (all in the character of the building, I'm sure) but adequate with comfy bed, good shower and cupboard space etc. Hairdryer was in the drawer. We used the pool and they opened it just for us which was nice. Again dated changing areas, nice size pool and was lovely to have a swim during our travels and unwind. The gym was modern and well equipped. Lots of parking areas on site. Very short walk into the town which was very nice with many interesting shops and cafes. Not touristy or tacky. Had a super cream tea at Mocha. I would stay here again and recommend to others. A nice hotel and staff.

The Royal Glen is a family run hotel and the owners work very hard to keep up a high standard. It has a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. The building is exquisite and Grade 1. One of the owners, Hilary, went out of her way to do extra things for me as I am disabled. The Manager Boson, Gabriella and staff provide an excellent service. In the dining room they cater for all appetites and are eager to please every guest. It has a beautiful indoor pool and they provide the towels.. The pool is accessed down "in pool ladders", not graduated steps, and because of my mobility problems I was unable to use this facility. I have problems with weakness in an arm and opposite leg. The only drawback for me at this hotel was the problem with steps. Many guests make repeated returns.

The Royal Glen is a real gem of a hotel with its quirky appearance and Victorian connections. We stayed for 4 nights and on arrival our suitcases were taken to our room, The spacious Edinburgh suite. With a kitchenette one end and shower room the other. The sofa and very comfortable twin beds We’re perfect. The hotel has spacious accommodation on the ground floor with large rooms and a separate bar in which to chill out. The food was excellent both for breakfast and evening meals. Staff were friendly and competent. The Manager, Bogdan and his wife, were always at attentive and ‘run a very good ship.’ The swimming pool and modern gym was a pleasure to use. We would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return in the future.

The Royal Glen describes itself as "Regency elegance" and lives up to it. Although in many ways a posh hotel, it was not stuffy at all and all the staff were very friendly. Being able to write our journal in the grand upstairs drawing room, with its gilt-framed mirrors and antique furniture, was a treat. After a day's walking on the South West coast path, the small heated swimming pool was another treat. In other circumstances, we would also have enjoyed sitting in the gardens. It's well located for the coast path, at the start of Sidmouth, up a quiet street. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent (we especially liked the bubble and squeak) - and the B&B price was very good for the quality of stay and food.

The location of the hotel is 5 mins walk for the promenade at Sidmouth and the spectacular views of the sea and red cliffs to east and west of the town . The hotel is really quaint and traditional with lovely white exterior and Devon Gothic windows . The grounds are lovely too and well kept . The food in the restaurant is really good - Sunday night dinner is splendid with Sunday roast done to perfection . Breakfast is delicious with fresh cooked options - haddock and bubble and squeak on offer . Afternoon tea too and a well stocked bar - all staff helpful and friendly . What more could you want ?the Royal Glen is a real gem in Sidmouth .
